Interior Department Announces $1.3 Million for Local Wildland Fire Engines

Launches pilot program to retrofit vehicles with slip-on tankers.

The Department of the Interior (DOI) distributed $1.3 million to the wildfire response teams of local governments, allowing them to retrofit existing vehicles with slip-on water tankers. This is part of a pilot program dedicated to specifically funding these retrofits, which provides aid to small and remote emergency response agencies that need to facilitate the expansion of their capacity to fight wildfires.

“Many of our state and local partners are the first to respond when wildfires ignite near their communities,“ said Secretary Deb Haaland. “This pilot program, supported by President Biden’s Investing in America agenda, is bolstering their ability to respond quickly when a wildfire starts.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Haaland to be led by the Lord as she oversees the Interior Department.
  • For Interior Department officials as they award the funding to retrofit fire vehicles with water tanks.
  • For local and rural firefighters and other first responders as they utilize the funding under the pilot program.
